Legacy Piece Solemn Lament Guide: The Grave Quest Route

The step everyone misses

Solemn Lament parts do not drop until you have finished the grave quest. That single line on the official board explains almost every “I’ve been farming for hours and got nothing” post about this weapon. If you have not spoken to the Griefbound Ferryman, you are farming a drop table that is switched off.

Step 1 — the grave quest

  1. Speak to the Griefbound Ferryman.
  2. Accept Solemn Lament 1 — Read the Three Forgotten Graves.
  3. Travel to Grave Island and read the three special graves: Bell, Name and Fear.
  4. The quest completes automatically once all three are read — there is no turn-in step.

Step 2 — assemble the two guns

With the quest done, the parts start dropping. You need:

  • 200× Solemn Parts
  • 200× Lament Parts
  • $50,000,000

Both parts drop from regular enemies at roughly 1–8% depending on enemy tier. They drop one at a time, there is no pity system, and they cannot be traded. Bring everything to the Mysterious Stranger when you have it.

What that grind actually looks like

At the top of that range — 8% on a high-tier enemy, one part per successful roll — 400 parts is on the order of 5,000 kills. At the bottom of the range it is several times that. Two things move the number:

  • Enemy tier. The rate scales with it, so farm the highest mob you can kill in one rotation rather than the fastest one you can kill in two hits.
  • Drop Potions. They multiply the listed rate; current codes give several away free.

The $50,000,000 is the part people underestimate. Money comes from quest payouts and mob drops, and the Permanent x2 Money item in the item list is the only multiplier on it.

Solemn Lament arrived in update 1.5 Part 2 alongside Undyne and Star Platinum — see the update history. It exists as both a boss and a weapon on the board, so a page telling you to farm “the Solemn Lament boss” for the guns is describing something different from this quest route.
