Legacy Piece Undyne Quest: Full Steps, Cost and Farm

Before you start

Undyne is one of the three specs added in update 1.5 Part 2, alongside Solemn Lament and Star Platinum. Like the Solemn Lament route, it is a quest chain with a material bill at the end, and the bill is the hard part:

  • Undead Fishman race
  • $100,000,000
  • 1 Undyne Core
  • 100 Undying Souls

The board does not say which island the Undyne NPC stands on; the fight itself takes place in the Ocean Cave trial. If you are not a Fishman yet, read the race section below first — the quest steps can be done before the race, but the purchase cannot.

The quest, step by step

  1. Talk to Undyne and pick “Accept Undyne’s challenge.”
  2. Survive the spear-blocking minigame for 30 seconds. WASD or the arrow keys rotate your shield; R retries, Esc quits.
  3. Talk to Undyne again and pick “Begin Soul Resonance.”
  4. Find and interact with all three hidden energy spears. Each spear counts once.
  5. Return and pick “Challenge Undyne.” Enter the Ocean Cave trial and defeat her.
  6. With the race, money and materials ready, return and pick “Learn Undyne.” Everything is consumed and the spec is yours.

The dialogue options are quoted from the board; the Roonby walkthrough repeats them in the same order, so the sequence is confirmed by two sources.

Farming Undyne after the first kill

Once you have beaten her in the trial, the Undyne Summon NPC lets you re-fight her for:

  • 50 Boss Tickets
  • $50,000

She has a 5% chance to drop 1–5 Undying Souls. On paper that is around 670 summons for 100 souls at the average roll — some 33,000 tickets — which is why the ticket codes matter and why a Drop Potion and a higher summon difficulty (Extreme multiplies drop chance by 1.75, from the 1.5 Part 2 notes) are not optional. The board does not list where the single Undyne Core comes from; it is stated as a requirement only.

Undyne also drops Starlight Cores at 5% while Stardust 5 of the Star Platinum questline is active — if you are chasing both specs, run that stage during the same farm.

Getting the Undead Fishman race

The race is a two-stage evolution off the base Fishman race; the Fishman content lives on Fishman Island, added in update 1.5 Part 1:

  1. Start as a Fishman.
  2. Complete the evolution quest: defeat 5 Fishman Captains and collect 3 Undead Fishman Scales.
  3. Bring 20 Undead Fishman Scales, 5 Undead Fishman Cores, 100 Dreadtide Fangs and 50 Dreadtide Hearts to finish the evolution.

Race rerolls come from codes and world-boss drops if you need to land Fishman first; every race is listed on the races page.

Is it worth $100,000,000?

That money is twice the Solemn Lament bill and the largest single purchase on the board. Undyne’s moveset sits with the other Mythical specs on the weapon tier list — check its rotation there before committing, because the race requirement means a Race Reroll spent before the purchase sends you back to step one of the Fishman evolution.
